Project Goals

The goal of this project was to design and print an editorial book about an opera of our choice. The book would consist of four chapters dealing with concepts from the opera, a gallery of photos, and a libretto.

My Work

My group decided to do the opera The Magic Flute, and concentrate on the themes of “nothing is as it seems”, “contrasts”, and hidden messages, as these themes are seen throughout the opera. 

Details

The four chapters were about heroes journey, birds and their symbolism, freemasonry, and magical instruments used in storytelling. In these chapters we showed our concepts through the use of transparent pages used to hide messages, as seen in the chapter introductions and cover.  In these months we learned to design a book on InDesign, how to work with margins, grids, titles and text, as well as the printing process.
